If you support a domestic football club, you know pretty much where you have to start when it comes to buying tickets to see them play. You will also be aware that there may be issues doing so if you’re supporting one of the clubs that regularly sells out its matches, such as Liverpool or Manchester United.
When it comes to England, however, it can feel like an entirely alien experience. There are so many things that you need to take into account when trying to get hold of a ticket for the Three Lions, as well as if you’d rather watch the Lionesses play one of their matches.
Can Anyone Get Tickets?
If you’re wondering whether or not England tickets are open to anyone to buy, the short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer is that it largely depends on what matches it is that you’re hoping to buy tickets for, with priority for some games given to certain groups. If you’re looking to get tickets for a friendly game that is taking place at Wembley Stadium, for example, then the likelihood is that there will be an abundance of them available. Whilst this might not be the case if it’s a game against Germany or one of the home nations, it is largely true that friendlies aren’t the most popular.
Things become slightly more complicated if it is a competitive fixture that England are taking part in. If it is a qualifying game then you will still be able to buy a ticket and the place to look for them is on the ticketing portal of the Football Association’s website. Whilst tickets are available to everyone, depending on demand, My England Football members will get priority access. You can sign up to the scheme for free, which is worth doing if you really want tickets. If it is an away match, priority will be given to members of the England Supporters Travel Club for the games.
The major complication comes when you’re talking about matches at one of the major tournaments that England often play in. Whether it be the European Championship or the World Cup, the likelihood is that the relative governing body, either UEFA or FIFA, will be responsible for the distribution of tickets. You will need to look to see how to get tickets for matches and whether or not it is possible to get tickets for specific games, usually by applying for a ballot to be able to attend. These are usually much more popular, so the numerous official organisations get priority.
Men’s Games Versus Women’s Games

The popularity of the women’s game is such that getting hold of a ticket for a Lionesses match is becoming much harder. Even with that in mind, though, it is always going to be easier to get a ticket for a women’s match than it is to see the men play. One of the levellers between the two that you need to consider is where the match is being played. If it is Wembley Stadium, you will almost certainly be able to get a ticket for the Lionesses than the men’s team, on account of the size of Wembley and the lack of demand to see the women play in comparison to when it’s the men.
If the women are playing at another ground elsewhere, however, then the capacity of the stadium will be lower, which is down to the fact that fewer people will be wanting to watch a match that isn’t deemed important enough to be played at Wembley. This means that demand will be lower, so it is likely to be easier to get tickets in terms of the number of people who want to go, but harder in the sense that there are simply fewer tickets on sale. In the case of the men, it will always be slightly trickier to get tickets to see them, but the competition will be the determining factor.
How Prices Can Differ

If you’re thinking about heading along to watch an England match, regardless of whether you want to see the men or the women, you will want to have some sense of how much you’ll have to pay for a ticket. There are numerous different deciding factors that can lead to the price of a ticket changing, not least of which is the stadium that is hosting the game and where in that stadium you want to sit. As an example, when England played Wales at Wembley Stadium on the ninth of October 2025 in a game played as an Alzheimer’s Society International, a Category 3 ticket would have cost you £45.
When the men’s team played Serbia, also at Wembley Stadium, in a World Cup qualifier, you needed to be in the England Supporters Travel Club to get early access, or be part of My England Football if you wanted to get a ticket before they went on general sale. Meanwhile, the Lionesses hosted China at Wembley Stadium on the 29th of November 2025, with a Category 3 ticket costing £25. That shows the difference between the pricing on the men’s game as compared to the women’s. Meanwhile, games that were part of one of the major tournaments will have been significantly more expensive.
Why You’d Want to Join One of the Clubs
You might be wondering whether or not it is worth your while to join one of the numerous different clubs that exist around the England team. Obviously, this is a personal choice, but it is worth considering the fact that the England Supporters Travel Club gets access to away match tickets, as well as for the major tournaments such as the World Cup and the European Championship. If you want to turn up to see the Three Lions play a match away from home or you hope to be able to go to support them at a tournament, your best bet is by joining the Travel Club.
The thing to bear in mind, though, is that it isn’t free to join. Instead, you can expect to pay around £85 to join initially, paying a not dissimilar amount to renew your membership each season. You do get a discount on ticket prices, but you would need to buy a lot of tickets in order for the price of membership to be covered. One thing that you can do is buy up to eight tickets, so it is a handy thing to do if you’re likely to attend matches alongside someone else. Again, though, it’s all personal choice and only you will know if you’d make sufficient use of such a membership.
