MINI REPORT
Joe Cole struck a decisive goal in Cardiff to keep England's World Cup qualification campaign on track but Sven-Goran Eriksson was left with as many questions as answers after an unconvincing victory against Wales.

David Beckham said: "It was a better performance than in Denmark. I think we've got over that now. People would like to have seen more goals to show that game is out of our system but the important thing was to get the three points as it's a tough place to come. It's a passionate crowd and a passionate team.

"Maybe too much has been talked about the Denmark game as it was a friendly, although it was a bad performance. But that's totally out of our system now and we've got our confidence back up. The fans don't want to see performances like the one in Denmark. They pay a lot of money to come and see us, but today we performed."

Sven-Goran Eriksson admitted the three World Cup points against Wales delighted him more than the performance.

"I'm very happy with the result," said Eriksson. "The first half we were okay and played better than Wales. In the second half we were okay until the last 20 minutes. We lost the ball too easily and gave Wales the opportunity to knock high balls in for John Hartson. But we defended well.

"We want to play good football, but it was most important to get three points. We will try to play better on Wednesday."
