MINI REPORT

Not a fantastic performance but the result was in England’s favour in Fabio Capello’s first game in charge against Switzerland at Wembley. Starting with a team that had eight changes from the side that lost to Croatia in November England started nervously and squandered possession. Switzerland produced some lively moments in the first half but it was England that led at the break after Jermaine Jenas turned home a Joe Cole cross. The Swiss pulled level on 58 but substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips restored the lead shortly after.

A much better second half performance from England and a pretty solid start to Capello’s reign.
