MINI REPORT

Zzzzzzzzzz Is it over yet? Awful game of football in Madrid as Spain beat England 1-0 in a lacklustre friendly international. Spain totally dominated possession in the first half and took the lead on 9 minutes through Del Horno heading home after England defended poorly from a Spanish corner. Multiple changes by both managers made the second half a non-event and most people were praying for the final whistle.

England were incredibly poor, there passing was non-existent and Spain looked good for the first fourty five minutes and deserved to win. Wayne Rooney’s few moments of madness seen him replaced by Alan Smith on fourty two minutes to save him from a red card. England had one effort on goal all game (a wild Smith header). Another friendly under Eriksson that is added to the vault titled "best forgotten".

Shameful racial abuse from the Spanish fans towards Englands black players should see Spain punished by UEFA.

AFTER MATCH COMMENTS

England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson admitted his players "lost their heads".

He said: "It was too competitive for a friendly game. The second half was a little bit better, but in the first half I'm sorry to say we lost our heads. When we do that it's difficult to come back in football."

Eriksson was also distressed to hear more racist chanting aimed at England's black players throughout the match - and he called on the Football Association to keep campaigning against such behaviour.

"It was very bad to hear. When you hear people doing it at players because of the colour of their skin I am sorry to hear it but it happens today. It is always bad and you always have to take distance from that.
