Sven-Goran Eriksson insisted that the future was still bright
for England as he vowed to overcome Turkey in next week's Euro 2004
qualifier despite his team having failed to impress while beating
Liechtenstein.
Eriksson declared: "I am sure that we haven't gone backwards
since the World Cup.
"Of course, it was a really bad result to draw at home to
Macedonia but I'm not worried about the future for England.
"I am convinced that we will do a very good game next week.
I cannot tell you the result but we will play good football and
give Turkey a battle, I'm sure of that."
Michael Owen vowed to "carry on scoring" for his country
after reaching the 20-goal mark in the game. Owen said: "Great players
thrive upon expectations and I enjoy playing in big games. "It's
very nice to score 20 goals for your country. Not too many people
have done that so I've got to be very pleased. "I'm still only 23
now so hopefully I've got a long time to score a few more goals
and I want to get as many as I can. "We knew that Turkey was always
going to be the main game in this group. We knew it was the big
one. "We were expected to win tonight and it didn't really matter
how it happened. The main thing was getting those three points."
