MINI REPORT
England and Holland played out a bore-draw in Amsterdam. A late equaliser denying England a moral boosting win.

Holland started the game the slightly better team but both sides failed to raise the tempo in the first 25 minutes. England came more into the game in the last 15 minutes of the half and Wayne Rooney went close with a header. England took the lead on 37 minutes Joe Cole whipping in a perfect cross for Wayne Rooney to flick the ball home.

The second half was instantly forgettable and Holland failed to cause England’s defence including impressive debutant 18 year old Micah Richards any problems until a late long throw caused panic and Van der Vaart smashed it home.

AFTER MATCH COMMENTS

Steve McClaren felt there were 'no negatives' from the 1-1 draw with Holland, even though Rafael van der Vaart's late equaliser denied England their first win in Amsterdam since 1969.

"I asked for a performance and that is what we got," said McClaren. "We are all disappointed we didn't win because we deserved to.

"Apart from the goal we had half a dozen very good chances and on another day we would have won. I can't think of any negatives about the system or the game plan."

McClaren insisted he had not been affected by the intense spotlight before kick-off, preferring instead to focus his attention on getting the most from the players who let him down so badly in Zagreb.

"I am not bothered about the criticism, all I am bothered about is the team, the performance and the result," he said.

"My job is to get the players to perform like they did tonight. That is the only thing that concerns me."
