England's experimental young side gave a decent performance but were defeated 1-0 by Italy in Turin tonight. Gattuso scored the only goal of the game in the 58th minute to seal the victory. England tried in vain to score an equiliser in a lacklustre match with both sides struggling to stamp any sort of control on the game. Peter Taylor's first and possibly only game in charge could have ended better and with a bit of luck England would have at least had a draw to take home. Nothing lost and not a lot gained really.
