THE HOME CHAMPIONSHIP

The Home Championship or British Championship was competed between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland between 1883/84 and 1983/84.

The championship was discontinued in 1984

WINNERS
England have won the championship outright on 34 occasions
Scotland have won the championship outright on 24 occasions
Wales have won the championship outright on 7 occasions
Northern Ireland have won the championship outright on 2 occasions

FOUR-WAY SPLIT
1955/56 Was the only occasion on which all four countries obtained 3 points each and the trophy was shared four ways.


INCOMPLETE
The 1980/81 championship was left incomplete after both England and Wales refused to teavel to Belfast at the times of the hunger strikes.

THE END
In 1983 England announcedthat they would no longer play Wales and Northern Ireland as they could not spare the dates from their crowded calendar. Scotland quickly folowed suit and as a result the 1983/84 Brisish Championship was to be the last - exactly 100 years after the first.
